American Asthma Foundation

The American Asthma Foundation is the one and the only national organization which is focused completely on the allergy of asthma and the only group with the necessary mandate to promote government funding to totally eradicate this disease. Basically, American Asthma Foundation is a non-profit organization and the basic aim is to find a cure for many people throughout the world who are suffering from this terrible disease.

The Centers for Disease Control classify asthma as one of the major public health problems. many people throughout the world are suffering from it and it is still known to be the most common disease that children suffer from. Usually they get out of it as they grow up; sometimes it develops into a fully fledged problem. Children who live in poor conditions are usually the worst hit by it, more often than not three to three to five times more likely to have severe attacks, be hospitalized, or even die from asthma as like it or not asthma can be fatal if proper treatment is not provided. More people are known to have asthma than diabetes, cystic fibrosis, breast cancer or Parkinson's. What happens during an asthma attack is that the sides of the airways in the lungs swell, and the airways shrink. When this happens wheezing, coughing or panting slowly begins; producing immense mucus is produced, leaving the patient gasping for breath. The symptoms are many we can't really restrict them to some as various people face various symptoms. Usually these attacks do not follow a set pattern and can be very haphazard as far as the frequency is concerned.

The causes can also be many like respiratory infections, physical exertion and stress, animal dander and bird feathers, pollens and various other allergens( a very known trigger), cockroach and rodent droppings, mold, mildew and dust mites, second hand smoke, some sorts of medicines namely aspirin, some people could also be extremely allergic to strong perfumes and various chemical agents. Just like the causes and the symptoms the treatments could be many as well, for example bronchodilators and steroids the things that mostly people use to find relief. Always follow the doctor's prescriptions and take your medication properly without even missing out on one dose if you really do want to get somewhere with the treatments.

The basic striking thing about this disease is that there is no cure for asthma, the best thing that these patients can probably do is to take medications in order to prevent the asthma attacks and keep on taking those medications throughout their lives.

We should try to give support to the best scientific minds who are trying their level best to find a cure for people who are suffering from this disease. The American asthma foundation is actually doing a great job through its strategic Program for Asthma Research, it has lately funded a vast range of new asthma activities, all aimed at improving asthma treatment and finding out a cure if possible. American asthma foundation is a boon for people who are suffering from this disease.
