Yoga is one of those exercises which are extremely powerful and should not be underestimated no matter what as they have been providing people with solutions to their problems since ages. Pranayama is also not just another asthma breathing exercise as anything that has the power to heal even strong ailments should be handled in an appropriate way.

Pranayama is a science and keeping its immense power in view it is basically prudent for the patients suffering from any kind of illness to take a genuine opinion of a trusted doctor even before trying out the pranayama exercises. The best thing for an asthma patient is to keep in check and should not try doing all the exercises in one go as it will not be very feasible for him to do so. The best thing to do is to master one technique and then jump onto something else. Basically chest muscles are under a lot of pressure in asthma patients and doctors advise patients to deliberately relax the chest muscles while taking part in any activity that causes exertion to their system like walking up a slope, or walking upstairs, or indulging in any sporting activity. You should try to unwind your arms, legs and thorax and should sleep in a way that is relaxing to the chest muscles.

There are many people who are suffering from emphysema who really find it very relaxing to lie down with higher pillows and the same goes for asthma patients who are ageing. Nowadays you can also get yourself a bed which can be raised a little bit for a more comfortable lying position while sleeping and this will also relax respiratory muscles while sleeping. You can also start doing regular toe touching exercises and sit-ups as well as the latter everyday can make the abdominal muscles very tough. But if you overdo any exercise, the results can be disastrous as they may exert the system and even cause damage.
