Asthma Exacerbation In Pregnancy

As much exciting pregnancy is for women there are a lot of changes in your body which also mean a lot of changes in your emotions that is you can actually face an emotional roller coaster. You really can't decide what you will do the next moment as you don't have any control on your life. There are a lot of emotions present like you could be tired, uncomfortable, or cranky one day and energetic, healthy, and happy the next. But of course things can get ruined if you are suffering from an allergy called asthma.

Well an attack is one of the most common things that a pregnant woman can go through if she has asthma. There can be an uncontrollable wheeze, cough, or have some difficulty breathing. One of the most common conditions affecting your lungs during pregnancy can be the occurrence of asthma. At any given time, up to 8 percent of pregnant women have asthma and if asthma treatments will harm the baby. Basically all you need is an appropriate asthma therapy, with which most of the women can have, to manage pregnancy and asthma together. So asthma exacerbation in pregnancy can be managed pretty easily if you just try to follow few things correctly.

Now after Women who discover that they are pregnant should continue their asthma medications. The worst thing that they could probably do is to abruptly stop the medications altogether as this could result in the baby not getting enough oxygen that is needed for him to develop normally. The way asthma effect women, is different in different women. Usually during pregnancy, the conditions worsen in at least one third of the women that are affected by it. Asthma worsens in about one-third of women, improves in one-third, and remains unchanged in the last one-third. There are many other common things that have been noticed like;

1. Usually in pregnant women an increase in the frequency with which symptoms show up is often seen between weeks 29 and 36 of pregnancy.

2. During the last month asthma is less severe

3. Contrary to common belief, labor and delivery do not have a lot of effect on asthma.

4. There are many women whose asthma actually improves but that also subsides after the pregnancy.

5. The way asthma behaves during the first pregnancy, it more or less behaves in the same pattern in other pregnancies as well.

Not many people agree on the facts that cause the symptoms of asthma to occur frequently. The most dangerous weeks according to doctors are 17 through 24 of pregnancy. Many doctors are of the view that this usually happens because women stop using the drugs which are used to control asthma. When an asthmatic woman gets pregnant she needs to be cared for by both the asthma specialist and an obstetrical provider. They don't have to see the asthma specialist every time they go to their gynecologist but have to see them according to the frequency of asthma attacks. An asthma exacerbation can be very well managed if you know the basics only.
