Prevention Of Childhood Asthma

Something as disastrous as asthma can take lives of many children if left uncontrolled for a long time or for that matter is not diagnosed at the right time. At least four million children all over the world below the age of 18 are affected by Asthma. Of course if your child is one of those affected by this disease, it would do you right to know a thing or two about asthma. To this day, it remains the disease that claims the lives of many a child.

Prevention of childhood asthma might not be a very easy thing to do but on the exercise of some control it can be done quite effectively. Usually it is marked by the swelling of the bronchial airways which results in the making of unwarranted mucus, which then results in swelling and contraction of the respiratory muscles. When all this change happens, the airways get obstructed making it more difficult to breathe easily. A child who suffers from this condition can develop a severe difficulty in breathing which is going to be made more difficult by coughing and wheezing. Of course people these days are of the opinion that an asthma attack is not a big problem as it can be treated very easily, but as they say, prevention is always better than cure and an asthma attack obviously s no exception at all.

Why do some people suffer from asthma whereas some do not get the taste of it at all? Nobody can say anything for sure. Studies lead us into believing that childhood asthma is purely due to hereditary factors and can also be induced by allergy. If your child is getting particularly discomforted, he could be tested for asthma as chest tightness and difficulty in breathing can make the child irritable. The common triggers to childhood asthma are exercise, infections, allergy, irritants, weather and even emotion. Any asthma episode can be avoided if you give your child a bronchodilator medication before any physical activity and swimming is considered to be the best among all exercises and the least likely to activate an asthma attack.

Changes in weather usually can trigger an asthma attack and there are many underlying studies which prove that cold breeze can provoke an asthma episode. If your child has been diagnosed with asthma, the best thing for him would be to wear a protective mask or simple heavy scarf to avoid inhalation of cold air, as much as is possible. You must have heard about pollen allergies and dust allergies; these allergies can also be a start of an asthma attack. If weather is like that, the best thing is to avoid these conditions, stay indoors and be safe. This way your asthma is not going to flare up at all.

Not many people know of this but emotional traumas also account for many an asthma attacks. Any anger, anxiety, emotional distress can also result in an asthma attack very easily. If your child is facing such problems the best thing would be to try and make your child stay calm under such circumstances that is going to have many positive effects. So as we can see in this article prevention of childhood asthma is not a difficult thing to do if done very early on.
