The latest asthma medication comes in two different categories mainly;

Inhalers: Most asthma medicines are usually given to patients by an inhaler. The main thing to achieve is that it should reach directly to the airways of your lungs. There are various types of inhalers now available in the market and your doctor will help you choose the best one for you. The three main asthma inhaler groups are;

1. Aerosol inhalers: the type of inhalers which is used most frequently due to the fact that they are small and convenient, and can fit inside your pocket or handbag, and can be used to inhale a variety of medicine. These inhalers work in a way that they deliver the treatment as a 'mist' or spray but need good co-ordination to be used correctly. Due to which they are not properly given to young children or adults with poor co-ordination.

For people who can't have it can use it with the help of a device called the spacer. Spacers come in many various brands which can fit different inhalers.

2. Breath-actuated inhalers: Breath-actuated inhalers, eg Autohaler and Easi-Breathe are in many ways quite similar to aerosol inhalers, but they are smaller and in many ways more convenient to carry. Basically these can be used by children over five years as well due to their sheer convenience. When you breathe in, the inhaler mechanically delivers one dose of the treatment. These inhalers cannot be used with spacers though.

3. Dry powder inhalers: when you use dry powder for inhaling your medicine you need a dry powder inhaler. Many dry powder inhalers can be used with capsules, but as these capsules are more or less susceptible to moisture it is important that you store them at a cool dry place. Many dry powder inhalers come with medication inside of them that is the medication is in the discs or in the device itself. These inhalers are basically small, portable devices; which usually contain multiple doses and can be monitored according to the number of doses taken and there is also a way to monitoring the doses which are left.

Tablets

another way of taking asthma medication is through tablets as well for the people who don't have the time and energy to invest in the inhaling method of asthma treatment.

These preventer medicines can now be obtained in the form of tablets from anywhere in the market and if your asthma gets extremely bad your doctor could also prescribe some medicines for you.
