Makeup Artist Working In Theatre

The definition of a makeup artist is someone who does prosthetics for theatrical, television, film, fashion, magazines and other productions like these. Sometimes hairstyling is also one of the jobs assigned to them but not always. This profession is usually awarded for the services provided by its people; both emmys and oscars have a separate category for these people.

In general we cannot say that this is a very well paid profession, in fact we can say that Make-up artistry, in general, is not a well paying occupation, as compared to other positions in this industry. However, a beautician can have a bit better position in the modeling world. A makeup artist working in theatre is something that can really not make that much of money that a non-theatre artist can. You have to present your model in a way that people can like and appreciate your work and that is the basis on which a makeup artist working in theatre can work at his level best. These artists can start their work in a variety of ways like interning at a theater, assisting a working make-up artist, or even attending a makeup artistry school, all of these things are definitely going to help make him a better makeup artist. Mostly self employed these makeup artists can also be represented by an agency, or employed by a production company, usually they are represented as such. Usually makeup artist working in a theatre needs a license, but in some countries they can do so even without one.

Even though this seems like a highly desirable profession to adopt at first, it must be kept in mind that no matter what, you have to start with an extremely low pay which gradually increases to something you might like. While working you also have to learn about how to build contacts that will last a lifetime as in this profession building a network of contacts is a very important task to achieve. For a makeup artist, theatre is a fun aspect to be working in; as it usually brings out the best in him.

If you are clear about practicing makeup in theatre you should keep this fact in mind that only a very few production companies are there which can really afford to hire a beautician that can't dress the wigs and hair too due to which even if all you want to be is a makeup artist a few courses in Hair and Wig work will definitely do you much good. Of course when the makeup business is a bit down you can mint some extra money doing your hair business. You can also take in a few students of your own; this will help you make money as well as repute. Many great makeup artists all over the world are also trying to build up their knowhow of computer graphic imaging, a field which is gaining loads of significance in today's makeup world. Also it is being widely used in the design stage of film and TV widely these days. So we can see now that makeup artist working in theatre can be fun but we really need to know a lot about the whole procedure before we embark on the journey.
