Back muscles are often neglected as more showy areas of the body like arms; legs and abs steal the limelight. But the reality is, a good muscular back improves overall health and power and is one of the key muscle groups to build up so that injury is prevented, of course it does look good in a swimsuit as well. 1. You should know what you are dealing with thoroughly. Now every back is composed of three muscles; the lower back, the lats and the traps. The primary duty of your lower back is to balance the body; the traps are at the top center of the back. You can look at the traps in the mirror by facing forward; they slope downward from the neck. Now what are the lats? These are situated in the middle of the back and are the centre of all the hard work, pushing, pulling and stabilizing.

2. When you are doing exercise for your back muscles, you can do that very well with the help of bent-over rows and dumbbell rows, the two free weight exercises that should make a regular part of your back muscle routine if you really want to know more about building back muscle.

Pull-ups are done with your hands face down whilst holding on to the bar, while chin-ups are done with your palms up whilst gripping the bar very tightly. You can say in a way, pull-ups use an overhand grip and chin-ups use an underhand grip.

6. Try to build up your core. Many physical trainers, exercise instructors and nutritionists talk non-stop about the core, which is basically the muscle group situated in the very center of your body, near your abs and torso and a muscular core will help you build back muscle in an amazing manner.

7. Another very important feature in your exercise routine is a dead lift. These build all the muscles in the back at the same time, but you should know that they are hazardous for inexperienced weight lifters due to which the best thing is to always use a spotter. You should also not try to attempt a dead lift until you have spent a few weeks building up the muscles with less intense equipment.
